In the U.S., we are at the end of a 3-day weekend, today honoring U.S. Vets on Memorial Day. Today is also National Wine Day, so pop the cork (or some cases unscrew the cap) and let’s drink some wine with a toast to May 25, National Wine Day, considered by some as the “second wine day.” But really who needs a reason to drink wine?

National Wine Day May 25

National Wine Day in the United States is celebrated May 25, one of several wine-themed U.S. Holidays.

National Wine Day – May 25

Although the origins of this annual spirited holiday are unknown, the Official National Wine Day is celebrated on May 25.

Wine has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Wine (and references to wine) have been recorded in history books of nearly every region in the world. The oldest bottle of wine (to date) was discovered by archaeologists in 1867, while excavating two Roman stone sarcophaguses in Speyer, Germany. This bottle of wine dates back to at least 325 AD. Sealed with wax and containing a white liquid, the bottle of wine is now on display at the History Museum of the Pfalz in Germany.

What do you think would YOU crack open the oldest bottle of wine — or preserve the 1,650-year-old bottle?

Let’s talk about Wine Holidays in the United States.
